THT Rough Machining

The traditional machining titanium impellers usually involves disassembling the workpiece to a coordinate machine for measurement after rough machining is completed, followed by reverse machining. This method not only has a large amount of deformation, but also has a large error generated by the secondary clamping. THT titanium impellers utilize a machine tool probe to measure the deformation of the titanium impeller in real time and compare the actual measurement results with the theoretical CAD model. The system will automatically modify machining program according to the actual deformation profile to ensure that the blade deformation is controlled, thus solving the problem of large blade deformation after roughing in the traditional machining process.

By adopting the adaptive machining technology, we are not only able to ensure the machining quality of titanium impellers, but also speed up the production cycle, providing customers with more efficient and accurate machining services.

Processing

Our titanium impeller machining process is completed at one time by 5-axis linkage equipment to ensure machining precision and efficiency:

1  Titanium ingots is clamped on the 5-axis rotary table by chuck, and the milling cutter is linked to carry out rough milling of the outline, and complete the drilling operation of the key holes.
2.Using the finishing turning process to chamfer and finish the outside circle to ensure the accuracy of the size and shape of the outside circle.
3 Using SKG fast feed milling cutter with small deflection angle and low resistance S-type inserts for roughing of blade disk runner. Use spiral point milling process to further improve the machining quality and efficiency of the blade surface.
4. Using ball end mills that avoid the leading and trailing edges to ensure that the blade shape is close to the final product.
5. Finally, our titanium impeller surface is finely treated through the abrasive grain flow process to ensure a smooth, flawless surface and enhance the overall quality and performance.

Machined Titanium Impeller VS Casting Titanium Impeller

1.Different processing technology: Machined titanium impeller adopts five-axis linkage processing technology, which has extremely high machining precision and excellent surface finish, suitable for complex structures and demanding applications. In contrast, cast titanium impellers use investment casting or sand casting process, although suitable for mass production, but its dimensional accuracy and surface quality is relatively low, difficult to reach the fine degree of machining.

2.Defects: Casting titanium impellers are prone to internal defects such as porosity and porosity during the casting process, which may affect their performance in high-strength applications, and are therefore more suitable for some less demanding working conditions. Machined titanium impellers, on the other hand, avoid casting defects through high-precision machining, and are able to meet the stringent requirements of demanding and high-end applications, such as aerospace, turbomachinery and other fields.

3. Mechanical Properties: The mechanical properties and fatigue resistance of machined titanium impellers are much better than cast titanium impellers due to the more uniform internal organization and structure of forged titanium billets. Microscopic defects and uneven grain structure within the cast impeller may lead to performance degradation in long-term use.

4. Production costs: Casting titanium impeller production process is relatively simple, suitable for mass production, high material utilization, low production cost per piece. The machined titanium impeller has a long production cycle due to the complex machining process, and the material is wasted more in the process, so the cost of a single piece is higher, but its high precision and high performance gives it a unique advantage in high-end applications.
