Grade 9 Titanium Tube

Gr9 titanium tube is a near-α titanium alloy tube, primarily composed of Ti-3Al-2.5V, and is also known as semi-Gr5 titanium tube. THT Gr9 titanium tube features excellent cold formability and weldability, making it frequently used for manufacturing tubes that can be cold worked. At both room and high temperatures, our Gr9 titanium tube exhibits 20% to 50% higher strength than pure titanium tubes, while its weldability and cold forming properties are similar to those of Gr5 alloy.

Currently, our Gr9 titanium tube is available in two finished conditions based on customer requirements:

  • Annealed
  • CWSR (Cold Worked & Stress Relieved)

THT Grade 9 Titanium Tube

THT has been a leader in the production of Gr9 titanium tubes for decades. We maintain a substantial inventory of Gr9 titanium tubes and can customize various specifications to meet the specific needs and applications of our clients.

Our Manufacturing Process

Raw Material Selection:

  • We meticulously select high-quality titanium and alloy elements to ensure the base materials of our products are of the highest quality.

Advanced Melting Technology:

  • Utilizing advanced melting techniques, we ensure uniform distribution of titanium and alloy elements, enhancing the material properties.

Multiple Forging and Heat Treatments:

  • Through multiple forging and heat treatment processes, we improve the structural integrity and mechanical performance of the titanium tubes.

Precision Size Control:

  • We strictly control the diameter and wall thickness tolerances during the drawing process to ensure precise product dimensions.

Refined Surface Treatment:

  • We conduct refined surface treatments on the titanium tubes to ensure a smooth and flawless surface.

Rigorous Quality Inspection

Each Gr9 titanium tube undergoes stringent quality inspections, including:

Dimensional Inspection:

  • Ensuring that the outer diameter, inner diameter, and wall thickness of the titanium tubes meet the specified requirements.

Mechanical Performance Testing:

  • Tensile Testing: Measuring tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.
  • Hardness Testing: Measuring the hardness of the titanium tubes.

Surface Quality Inspection:

  • Conducting visual and microscopic inspections to ensure the surface is free from defects such as oxidation, scratches, and pits.

Non-Destructive Testing:

  • Ultrasonic Testing: Detecting internal defects in the titanium tubes.
  • Radiographic Testing: Using X-rays or gamma rays to detect internal defects.
  • Eddy Current Testing: Detecting surface cracks and defects.

Through this series of rigorous processes and inspections, we ensure that each Gr9 titanium tube meets the highest quality standards, free from internal and surface defects such as cracks, pores, and inclusions. We are committed to providing our customers with high-quality Gr9 titanium tubes that meet various application needs.

Application

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties, Gr9 titanium tubing is widely used in marine applications, such as petroleum exploration instruments, petroleum hydraulic fittings, jacketed fittings, seawater desalination, navigation, marine aquaculture, and marine cleaning equipment. Additionally, it finds extensive applications in various military and civilian aircraft as well as spacecraft, especially in high-pressure lightweight conduits, aircraft engine hydraulic systems, and fuel pipelines. Gr9 titanium tubing exhibits resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride and acidic gas environments and is widely employed in heat exchange equipment, including shell-and-tube heat exchangers, coil heat exchangers, serpentine heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, and conveyance pipelines. Furthermore, due to its high mechanical strength and excellent strength-to-weight ratio, Gr9 titanium tubing is extensively utilized in sporting equipment such as titanium bicycle frames, titanium handlebar, titanium scotter bar etc.

Grade 9 Titanium Tube VS Gr5 Titanium Tube

Gr9 Titanium Tube VS Gr5 Titanium Tube

Gr9 titanium tubes and Gr5 titanium tubes both belong to titanium alloy tubes. Compared to Gr5 titanium tubes, Gr9 titanium tubes have lower aluminum and vanadium content, resulting in approximately 10% to 20% lower strength. However, Gr9 titanium tubes exhibit better cold working and welding properties, making them suitable for manufacturing tubes requiring cold working. There are also differences in application fields. Gr9 titanium tubes are typically used in applications that require medium strength and good corrosion resistance, such as structural components in the aerospace industry and pipeline systems in marine engineering. On the other hand, Gr5 titanium tubes are more commonly used in applications that demand higher strength, such as aircraft structures, components in aerospace vehicles, and medical implants.
