Platinum Coated Titanium Wire
Platinum coated titanium wire is a common high-performance DSA titanium electrode in THT platinized titanium anode. This product uses high-purity Gr1 or Gr2 titanium wire as the substrate, and forms a uniform and strongly adherent platinum coating on the surface through a precision electroplating process. The coating thickness can be flexibly adjusted within the range of 0.2–5μm according to customer requirements.

1. Select good surface good quality titanium wire/titanium rod
2. Titanium substrate cutting ，machining or threading etc
3. Sandblasting: Increase the specific surface area， roughness and remove oxide scale
4. Acid pickling: Convert titanium oxide to titanium hydride. (10% oxalic acid, at a slight boiling state for 2 hours)
5. Alcohol washing + ultrasonic: Clean the oxalic acid titanium thoroughly
6. Coating: Vacuum plating or hand brushing
7. Drying: Use a heating device such as a hairdryer to evaporate the solvent, leaving only the precious metal
8. Sintering: At 450-500 degrees Celsius, allow the precious metal and titanium substrate to react with oxygen to form a crystalline phase structure, tightly connecting them together, and possessing electrode performance
Application
- Electroplating: THT platinum coated titanium wire is widely used in metal electroplating, PCB board electroplating, and electronic electroplating, such as decorative or functional electroplating of gold, silver, palladium, copper, nickel, etc. As an insoluble anode, it can effectively avoid plating solution pollution and ensure metal coatings acquisition with higher purity and more stable performance.
- Electrolysis: During disinfection and cleaning, our platinum coated titanium wire can be used to manufacture water ionizers through electrochemical reactions, producing alkaline or acidic electrolyzed water because it is efficient and environmentally friendly.
- Electrodialysis: Our platinum coated titanium wire or platinum plated titanium rod can serve as efficient electrodes in electrodialysis systems, playing a important role in seawater desalination, material separation, and solution purification.
- Cathodic protection: Widely used in the corrosion protection of metal structures such as ships, pipelines, and storage tanks with its long working lifetime.
Platinum Coating Manufacturing Method
- Electroplating Coating: Immerse the surface-treated titanium wire in a platinum-containing electrolyte. Under the influence of direct current, platinum ions in the electrolyte are reduced and uniformly deposited on the surface of the titanium wire, forming a platinum layer with consistent thickness and smooth surface. It suits for continuous automated production, resulting in high production efficiency.
- Brush coating: Chloroplatinic acid solution is manually brushed onto the surface of titanium wire that has undergone acid pickling and sandblasting. Subsequently, it is sintered in a high-temperature sintering furnace at 420°C. The high temperature decomposes and reduces the platinum salt, which then firmly adheres to the titanium wire substrate. The coating thickness is achieved through multiple coating and sintering cycles. This process is cost-controllable and has no restrictions on product size or order quantity.

How to use platinum coated titanium wire rightly?
- Remove fluoride and phosphate ions from the electrolyte to avoid corrosion or passivation of the platinum coating, which could affect the catalytic activity and service life of the platinum coated titanium wire
- The surface area of the titanium cathode should be ensured to be smaller than that of the titanium anode to avoid the intensification of hydrogen evolution reaction, which may lead to the detachment of the platinum coating or hydrogen embrittlement of the titanium wire
- Reasonably control the current density within the range of 100-500A/m2
- Avoid using under high temperature or high pH conditions
